TEAM Nottingham has hailed its presence at MIPIM, the international property event, as a ‘huge success,’ returning from Cannes with a number of enquiries. MIPIM 2013, which saw more than 15,000 investors, developers, property people and professionals network and do business, Team Nottingham returned after a busy week of announcements, events and ‘core city’ collaboration.

Nottingham City Council leader Coun Jon Collins, who spoke at several events, said: "MIPIM is about making contacts with developers and investors and have previously not been involved in Nottingham.

"We will be following up these contacts over the next few weeks and months. It was really good to see the core cities working collaboratively, placing themselves as an economic powerhouse. Collectively, they upped their game this year.

"It was good to see a joint presentation of HS2 with Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. We will be following this up this week at Core Cities Cabinet."

Nottingham was there to showcase what it has to offer alongside other cities such as Leicester, Derby, Birmingham and Manchester.

There were two major announcements during MIPIM week. UK Regeneration (UKR) and Nottingham City Council announced the land deal for the Sandfields project in Nottingham.

The UKR model is to build 200 private homes for long-term rent, offering a flexible and positive alternative to those who don’t want to commit to home ownership.

A second announcement saw Nottingham City Council revealing the sale of the former fire station site in Dunkirk Road, Nottingham.

The city council and the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority agreed the sale of land to create the Nottingham University Academy of Science and Technology.

During MIPIM, Team Nottingham and Marketing Derby officially launched D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, as well as the Nottingham Enterprise Zone.

At the launch, Peter Richardson LEP chair, said: “D2N2  is the most inspirational postcode in the UK. By working together as a partnership we can showcase the complementary strengths of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire that together, make a compelling opportunity for investment and growth.”

Coun Collins added: “By combining our efforts this year, we can present more effectively the regional opportunities that exist for inward investment and creating new jobs. The LEP’s support strengthens our profile and is clear evidence of real partnership working”

At a major event, promoting the economic benefits of HS2 to the world stage, Coun Collins joined with Sir Albert Bore, leader of Birmingham City Council, Tom Riordan who is chief executive of Leeds City Council and Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council.

Together the four regional heavyweights talked to UK and international business people to welcome the arrival of HS2 and talked about the huge economic benefits to the regions.

Coun Collins said: “The opportunity that HS2 brings is not just about economic growth, but it is the potential to rebalance the UK’s economy. It will be of benefit to all of us, as well as London city.

“We will see the cities of Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham collaborating and the HS2 will provide mutual benefit. The decision about HS2 is now made so we must support it – and we must now look forward to how HS2 can extend to Liverpool, Bristol and Newcastle.”

Thirteen powerful partner organisations from across the Nottinghamshire property sector led Team Nottingham at MIPIM, which attracts thousands of investors and developers from across the globe.
Alliance Boots is also boosting the Team Nottingham line-up. Mark Chivers, director of the Enterprise Zone at Alliance Boots, talked at MIPIM about the benefits of Nottingham and Derby to investors.
The line-up of 13 included 11 private sector organisations (Alliance Boots, UK Regeneration, Innes England, Gleeds, Geldards, Morgan Tucker, Rizk McCay, Cartwright Communications, Couch Perry & Wilkes, CPMG Architects, Miller Birch, Invest in Nottingham and Nottingham Regeneration Limited.

Innes England director Tim Garratt, who helps to lead Team Nottingham, said: “This was the strongest and most exciting Team Nottingham we have had since the private sector began representing the city at MIPIM. For the third year running, we have had a number of private firms across Nottingham and the county who are keen to maintain the city’s prominence at MIPIM.

“Over the past few years, Nottingham has succeeded in establishing a recognisable presence there – and was vital that we keep this momentum going.”
