College snaps up city centre site for new salon

THE former Ilkeston Co-Op Travel unit on Nottingham’s Wheeler Gate is set for a dramatic transformation following a deal secured by property consultancy Innes England.

Salon Central – a brand new hair and beauty salon run by Central College Nottingham – is set to open its doors in early September at the Nottingham City Council owned site.

But it is not just Nottingham’s shoppers who will benefit, as the salon will provide learning opportunities for Central College students working towards vocational courses in hair and beauty.

Tim Garratt, director at Innes England in Nottingham has been working with the College to secure the perfect site. He said: “We have looked at a number of properties for the College to operate a fully functioning commercial salon – but with a learning angle.

“Wheeler Gate fit the bill and I was delighted we were able to secure the site in such a short space of time – it has taken less than six weeks from agreeing the heads of terms to completing on the lease.

“It is refreshing to see a very smooth transaction – which was down to a positive approach from all parties involved.”

Occupying nearly 6,000 sq ft of retail space, the new salon will offer a range of hair and beauty services to the people of Nottingham from 2 September.

Commenting on the opening of Salon Central, head of school of lifestyle, Alison Asbury said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our learners to experience working in a realistic salon environment in the city centre.

“By moving into the city we can give our students a true industry experience, which is easily accessible for all in a brand new salon.”

Nottingham-based firm, FHP acted on behalf of the city council on the deal.
