A POPULAR Bingham public house has re-opened its doors as a gastro pub and cocktail bar after an extensive refurbishment following a deal secured by commercial Innes England.
Entrepreneur Elena Georgiou has taken on a ten year lease of The Bingham – formerly the Wheatsheaf Inn – a grade II listed building in the heart of Bingham. Ben Taylor at Innes England acted on behalf of Elena to secure the deal.
Elena, who lives in Bingham, is new to the restaurant trade. She previously worked as an international building and design consultant for over ten years but decided to re-open the pub, which closed two years ago, as part of a new business venture.
Elena’s aim is to build a reputation for top quality cuisine at a good value. She said: “I used to drive past the property and think what a shame it was to have closed and what a beautiful property it is. I really like the fact that it is one of the oldest and most prominent buildings in Bingham.
“I’ve always been a bit of a foodie and I want to offer customers top quality pub food at an affordable price in a friendly environment.
“Bingham is a successful market town and the pub is already proving popular with the locals and people from the surrounding areas. We’ve had a lot of support from the local community who are extremely pleased to see that it’s re-opened and has been given a new lease of life.
“We’ve had great feedback about the new menu on offer. We even recently received a visit from an undercover food critic, who has featured The Bingham in the Great British Cook Book, which includes 300 dishes from ten regions of Great Britain. I’m proud of this early recognition and thrilled the business is doing so well in its early days.”
The three storey building comprises a newly re-fitted kitchen, dining area, cocktail bar and terrace, public house, car park and function room equipped for 50 - 60 people.
The front of the property includes a traditional pub layout with a large front room and connecting snug area. The rear has been converted to provide high quality contemporary accommodation for the restaurant area complete with a new bar.
“Our brand new function room is ideal for occasions such as wedding receptions and birthday parties. We have free WiFi and business facilities including plasma TV projection and Sky and can provide the ideal location for a range of events”, Elena added.
Ben Taylor, associate director at Innes England, said: “It is extremely encouraging to see a business thriving in the early stages of opening. The Landlord spent 18 months carefully transforming this previously tired pub into an attractive contemporary pub/restaurant. “
“We are seeing a growth in independent restaurants, and businesses such as Elena’s are continually raising the bar in terms of quality. Visitors to our market towns and larger centres demand not only a range of shops but a complimentary food offer. Undoubtedly The Bingham will help draw more visitors to the area and I wish Elena and her team all the best for the future.”
The Bingham is located in the centre of the town and with a population of 10,000 the area is set to see further population growth with Innes England working on the redevelopment of the former RAF Newton and on land to the north of the town, both including large new residential housing.
