One of the world’s leading providers of fertility treatment which was founded in Nottingham nearly two decades ago is establishing a state-of-the-art premises in Birmingham creating around 50 jobs.

CARE Fertility was founded in 1997 in the city to provide fertility services to private and NHS patients. Since then it has developed more than 15 clinics across the country.

Edgbaston Medical Quarter (EMQ) in Edgabaston is the latest location for CARE Fertility, which is to take a 10,000 sq ft facility in 27 Highfield Road, Edgbaston.

An extensive programme of works is underway to transform the existing building at the heart of the Calthorpe Estate into a cutting edge treatment facility.  Once fully operational, the new clinic will feature a high-tech laboratory and theatre along with patient facilities.  It is expected to employ up to 50 people in a variety of roles including clinical, nursing, embryology, administration and support services.

Ahead of its launch early in 2017, CARE Fertility is running a satellite clinic from George Road GP surgery to offer IVF consultation and treatment monitoring for its West Midlands patients.

CARE Fertility chief executive, Harvey Ainley, said: “The West Midlands is a key part of CARE Fertility’s expansion plans. We already have a large number of patients who travel from the region to our Nottingham clinic and, as well as building on existing interest, we also wanted to open up access to our enhanced level of service and treatment for an even greater number of people located in and around Birmingham.

“The new clinic is in a prime location.  Edgbaston’s connectivity will provide ease of access for patients; and there is local parking and strong public transport links.  However, by far the greatest attraction of the building at 27 Highfield Road was the opportunity to be part of a very well-established medical community which is clearly going from strength-to-strength.

“Edgbaston Medical Quarter is renowned for its strong healthcare focus and heritage; and CARE Fertility welcomes the chance to join a flourishing network and to make a positive contribution to the broader provision of clinical services in the area.”

The CARE Fertility Group is the largest integrated team of specialists dedicated solely to fertility management and assisted reproduction.  It has a strong reputation for patient care and support, together with excellent results and individual treatment plans.

CARE Fertility’s retained commercial property consultant is East Midlands-based Innes England. Director Craig Straw acted on behalf CARE Fertility in the acquisition. He said: “We were delighted to work with CARE Fertility in identifying and securing its new West Midlands facility.”

Mark Lee, chief executive of Calthorpe Estates, said: “It is considered a real coup that a dedicated IVF and fertility treatment clinic of this calibre will be located within the thriving centre of excellence that is Edgbaston Medical Quarter.

“CARE Fertility is highly-regarded in its field, and its investment in EMQ is testament to the many advantages medical, healthcare and life sciences organisations see in being a part of its ongoing clustering success.

“EMQ is now home to over 181 medical organisations, 80 hospitals and specialist centres, 44 GP clinics and 23 training facilities - all within walking distance of one another and all benefiting from Edgbaston’s  infrastructure and wider residential, leisure and educational facilities.

“Calthorpe Estates’ strategy enables us to provide support for a range of businesses – from those who want a purpose-built facility, to those looking for existing buildings with the potential for conversion or change of use.  The arrival of CARE Fertility to EMQ demonstrates how a flexible, customer-focused approach helps to meet the specialist requirements of medical organisations; and this continues to be an important factor in EMQs ability to attract pre-eminent operators.”
