Players needed to raise funds at charity squash tournament

TWO Nottingham-based firms are on the hunt for players for a charity squash tournament being held on Friday 15 May at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club (NSRC) in The Park.

Commercial property consultants Innes England and accountants Smith Cooper are organising the event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and are hoping to attract players of all levels to come along to not only raise money but to enjoy an active afternoon of networking.

The event will start at 12 noon with a light lunch followed by an afternoon's play. After play players will enjoy an evening buffet in the NSRC bar during which the winners will be announced and prizes given out. The event will close at approximately 7pm.

Tim Garratt, managing director at Innes England and chairman of NSRC said: “I’m passionate about squash and our chosen charity and I hope to attract players of all abilities to take part.

“It will be a great afternoon of sport, networking and fundraising and if we have a good turnout, it could be an annual event.”

To include a team, firms must have five players and each team must include one novice and one female and male player. Each team is guaranteed to play at least four matches.

The event organisers are looking for up to 20 teams to enter and NSRC will be offering some coaching sessions prior to the event for those who wish to have a go, or brush up on their squash skills before the day.

Chris Taylor, a partner at Smith Cooper said: “Squash is a great sport to be involved in and Smith Cooper is already a sponsor of the professional PSL team based at NSRC. We are pleased to supporting this event in the hope of raising vital funds for this very worthy charity.

“Both my wife and son are very active in the game so personally I jumped at the chance of being involved but professionally, playing squash is an excellent medium for networking and I hope to see many firms signing up to play.”

The cost per team is £25, including lunch and evening buffet and all proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK.
